Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Nicholas M. Halikis of Torrance Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group in Torrance, Calif., along with physical therapist Janelle Freshman, PT, DPT, OCS, CHT, and coordinator and photographer Howard Freshman visited the Rio San Juan in February 2015.  This was the fourth medical aid trip for the orthopaedic team which brought care, equipment and supplies to the communities of Buena Vista, Boca de Sabalos and San Carlos.  In addition to seeing dozens of patients, Dr. Halikis performed seven hand surgeries at the hospital in San Carlos as well as two others in the field.
