Eye care mission nears

John Jones has confimred that Santa Rosa's St. Mark Lutheran's next eye care mission will take place August 5 - 9, 2013.

There will be 11 people going down to the village of Buena Vista, which is about a 1.5 hour drive from Boca de Sabalos. It is remote and difficult to get to. They are planning three days of eye care clinics, testing for vision issues and providing reading and distance glasses along with sunglasses (all for free). They hope to see between 800-900 patients. In addition to the vision and eyeglasses, they'll be screening for possible cataract or pterigium surgeries and distributing about 500 Spanish Bibles, 300 Spanish Bible stories for the kids and lots of toys. The travelers are: Buffi Frazier, Greg and Connie Minnick, Richard and Terry Paille (mission #2), Karen Geerdes (mission #4), Nadean Carper (mission #2), Jon Watson (#3), Patsy Coleman from Chicago, Ardys Jones (mission #6) and John who has done about 12 missions.

San Juan Rio Relief has participated in eye and vision care clinics since 2007 and more than 8,000 local villagers have been examined, fitted for distance and reading glasses, provided sunglasses and been screened for cataracts and pterigiums.
